What is VITA?
The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program is a national initiative to offer accurate, secure, and free tax help, to lower-income households.

What is Miami Tax Pros?
Branches proudly leads Miami Tax Pros, the local Miami-Dade VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) Coalition, in partnership with the IRS. The coalition is comprised of 13 nonprofit organizations operating 37 free tax preparation sites throughout Miami-Dade County. This partnership expands access to high-quality, IRS-certified tax preparation services and financial empowerment resources at no cost, helping working individuals and families build greater financial stability.

Who May Qualify?
You may qualify to have your taxes prepared for free at a VITA site if one or more of the following applies:

• Your annual household income is generally $69,000 or less.
• You speak limited or no English.
• You are a person with a disability.
• You are 60 years of age or older.
• You have experienced financial hardship.

The United Way ALICE Report continues to highlight the growing number of households that work hard yet struggle to afford basic necessities. For many families, a tax refund represents their largest financial opportunity of the year. Through Miami Tax Pros, tax preparation becomes more than a filing service, it becomes a gateway to financial stability by connecting taxpayers to valuable tax credits, financial coaching, savings opportunities, and other asset-building resources.

Since 2015, Branches has proudly led the Miami-Dade VITA Coalition. Working together with our coalition members, volunteers, and community partners, we continue to strengthen financial well-being throughout Miami-Dade County.

2025 Coalition Impact:

• Over 400 IRS-certified volunteers
• Over 9,840 federal income tax returns prepared
• Over $195,000 in Education Tax Credit (ETC) claimed
• Over $1.1 million in Child Tax Credit (CTC) claimed
• Over $4.2 million in Earned Income tax Credit (EITC) claimed
• Over $10 million in Refunds to the Community

It is estimated that about 80% of refunds are then spent locally, which generates local sales, wages, and jobs, ultimately boosting the local economy right here in Miami-Dade County.

• Free Professional Tax Preparation - Professional tax preparation can cost hundreds of dollars. Miami Tax Pros provides IRS-certified tax preparation completely free of charge, allowing taxpayers to keep more of the money they have earned. • Strengthening the Miami-Dade Economy - Each year, the Miami Tax Pros VITA Coalition returns millions of dollars to hardworking families throughout Miami-Dade County. These refunds create a positive economic impact by increasing household purchasing power and supporting local businesses.
•  Maximizing Valuable Tax Credits - The Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) remains one of the nation's most effective anti-poverty programs. It is a refundable federal tax credit available to eligible low- and moderate-income workers and families. Approximately 24 million taxpayers receive nearly $70 billion annually through the EITC, with the average credit approaching $2,900. These refundable tax credits help families reduce debt, improve cash flow, build emergency savings, and strengthen long-term financial stability.
• Avoid Errors and Stress - All tax returns are prepared by IRS-trained and certified volunteers and undergo a comprehensive quality review before filing. This process helps taxpayers avoid costly errors, claim all eligible credits, and file accurate returns with confidence.

How We Do It
Miami Tax Pros trains and certifies over 400 volunteer tax preparers to help individuals and families receive expert tax preparation for free, and receive their maximum benefit and refund.  Our Coalition is comprised of over 37 partners across Miami-Dade County including non-profit organizations, churches, libraries, colleges and universities, media partners and local government, that help over 12,000 families a year.
